October Reads: Medical Dramas

City Hospital, which first aired in 1951, is largely considered to be the first television medical drama. Ever since its appearance, it seems at least one new medical show airs each year.

Medical dramas have a procedural nature and, as life and death is dealt with on a weekly basis, the stakes are always high. Throughout October, I've decided to look at a series of medical dramas - some more successful than others - to see various takes on this drama. If you want to read along, I'll be checking out the pilots of ER, Royal Pains, Off The Map, Combat Hospital, and Grey's Anatomy.
